New Music Monday: Crosby Loggins…sound familiar?

June 1, 2009

Crosby Loggins

This week’s subject for New Music Monday comes with a familiar name but a deeper voice and a brand new album. Crosby Loggins, son of singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins (of solo fame and half of folk/rock duo Loggins and Messina) is releasing his first solo album titled “Time to Move” via Jive Records after his win on MTV show “Rock the Cradle” which had famous rock progeny battling it out on stage each week. I grew up listening to Loggins and Messina but if you’re unfamiliar with Kenny Loggins by name you’ll remember him best by his songs “I’m Alright” from the opening credits of Caddyshack, “Danger Zone” from Top Gun and of course “Footloose.”

Kenny Loggins - Danny's Song

One of my favorite Kenny Loggins songs has always been “Danny’s Song” which I’ve included above for comparison’s sake – however don’t get caught comparing here for too long, Crosby has a distinctly different voice and style which I gather has been pretty deliberate. His voice has a bit of a Colin Hay quality to it (his solo stuff, not Men At Work) but he sings like a rock star with much more power and emotion.

Crosby Loggins - Seriously

His first single “Seriously” comes out on June 8th and was co-written by accomplished hit songwriter Kara DioGuardi (most recently made a household name as the 4th American Idol judge). The album “Time to Move” comes out on the 14th but I’ve got “Seriously” above for your listening pleasure. The song is piano driven, has a great build to it and his voice sounds clear and fantastic. I could definitely hear it showing up on Grey’s Anatomy next season or The Secret Life of the American Teenager this summer. Also contributing to the album is John Mayer with a guitar solo on the album’s title track.

“Time to Move” is not yet listed on iTunes but a page is up on Amazon and it says it will become available starting on the 2nd. In the meantime enjoy the preview and check out his official website below.
