Lisa Hannigan’s “Sea Sew” is Sweeeeeet

Lisa Hannigan - Sea Sew

Like most, I’ve been a fan of Lisa Hannigan’s pure, simple voice since I heard her sing with Damien Rice on his debut album “O.” So when her own debut solo album “Sea Sew” came out this fall I was really excited to hear it. Though “Lille” was her first single, initially I was most drawn to “Sea Song” for its mysterious melodies and the way the percussive orchestration evolves over the course of the track.

It’s safe to say my new favorite cut off the album is “I Don’t Know,” largely because of the above video. It perfectly represents Lisa in her simple sweetness and is such an endearing version of the track (far superior to the album version I think). Perhaps it’s because they’re performing it in a cubby-hole of a room in an Irish bar, that the percussionist is playing the brushes on what I can only guess is a drink menu, or the bartender’s (who looks more like a disgruntled fishing boat captain) expression of complete disinterest in what is going on 5 feet from him – either way it has captured my heart and it’s sure to capture yours. Unless of course you’re dead inside.

Lisa is performing at the Troubadour in West Hollywood next Saturday the 21st – click here to buy tickets.

Check back next week to read my review of the show.

In the meantime, check out “Sea Song” and the links below to preview/purchase the album.
