So, if you’re like me you are so sick of the AT&T commercial with the little girl and her stuffed monkey you’re reduced to fits of screaming and spastic scrambling for the mute button when it comes on TV. It sounds rash, but this commercial has been on since 2007 and for those two years has had the same “Sweet pea….apple of my eye…” hooky jingle playing along with its syrupy sweet storyline. Unlike me, there’s a good chance you have no idea who sings that song and subsequently want to choke them for supplying the sound track for so many of your sleepless nights. For this, I’d like to set the record straight.

Top Ten Sites for Free Music

For me, the measure of a good free music site is how quickly I can play the song I’m looking for and with the fewest number of strings attached. I don’t want to have to sign up for yet another site only to be bombarded with email updates and special offers. There are only a few sites that do this well (which I will highlight in this post) but in the interest of all of the other people out there who enjoy music sites for their communities and advanced features I felt the need to cover a fuller spectrum.

I don’t own an iPhone, but I do own an iPod Touch so I’m hip to all the apps floating around out there, and this app alone is almost reason enough to buy an iPhone.

Shazam uses some sort of magical algorithm to identify any song that you play in the vicinity of your iPhone’s built in microphone. It’s perfect for naming that song you’re listening to on the radio.
